Defending DEI: A UNC System Teach-In
In 2024, the University of North Carolina Board of Governors voted to repeal and replace the UNC System’s diversity, equity, and
inclusion (DEI) policy. All 17 of the network’s colleges had until September to comply with the system ban; this meant eliminating 59
positions related to DEI and realigning an additional 131 positions away from DEI programming.
In response, we joined several UNC System faculty members and held a virtual teach-in for
those a昀昀ected to learn more about what’s at stake and get connected with resources.
CAROLINADAZE Music & Arts Festival
Also in September, we were honored to take part in CAROLINADAZE, a youth-led music, arts, and civic engagement experience.
Organized by Common Cause North Carolina, CAROLINADAZE blended concerts with voter registration, political education, and local
activism to mobilize young voters across the state. With a portion of the festival’s proceeds going directly to us and other statewide
grassroots organizations, this event also allowed us to talk directly with NC voters ahead of the 2024 election about the issues at stake.
